Record of the Day is a music business publication, delivered online. It was founded in 2002 by three professionals with more than 25 years’ experience in the music industry. The subscription-based daily email and weekly e-magazine are read by thousands in the music industry and its related media. RotD’s daily email brings its readers up-to-date with all the day’s news, and crucially also features one editorially-chosen ‘Record of the Day’, giving the media and labels chance to hear a future hit. Many featured tracks have been unsigned, but have made great progress thanks to their being championed by RotD.

In 2004 Record of the Day launched The Music Journalism and PR Awards in print. The categories were voted-for by the music and media industry and the idea was much praised, and immediately cited as a worthwhile addition to the calendar.

In 2005, the first awards event took place, with Radio 1 and 6Music DJ Steve Lamacq joining to host the evening. In 2006 the event moved up to the legendary 100 Club in London’s Oxford Street and was again hosted by Lamacq. In 2007, the awards took over Punk in Soho, hosted by Guilty Pleasures’ Sean Rowley. In 2008, Radio 2’s Janice Long hosted the biggest event yet, in Holborn’s Conway Hall. In 2009, 6Music’s Matt Everitt took the night up another gear at SoSho in Shoreditch.
